Introducing Graphwise Sandbox: Explore the Power of GraphDB in Minutes

July 31, 2025
Reading Time: 5 min

Experience the power of GraphDB and knowledge graphs in minutes with Graphwise Sandbox, a self-service environment offering isolated demo projects and interactive guidance with no setup required

We’re happy to announce the launch of Graphwise Sandbox. It’s a self-service environment that allows anyone — from data enthusiasts to enterprise architects — to explore the capabilities of Graphwise GraphDB and knowledge graphs in just a few clicks.

Whether you’re curious about semantic technologies, building your first SPARQL query or evaluating GraphDB for a project, the Sandbox provides you a fast, safe, and intuitive way to test-drive our technology. It requires no setup, no commitments — it’s simply there for you to experiment.

Learn about Graphwise Sandbox

Graphwise Sandbox is a Software as a Service solution that allows users to register with a Google or LinkedIn account and launch isolated demo environments powered by GraphDB. Each Sandbox environment offers complete tenant isolation, ensuring that your data and changes remain private, secure, and accessible only to you.

This isn’t just a basic playground — it’s a feature-rich experience designed to showcase real-world use cases through pre-loaded datasets and interactive guidance. You’ll also gain access to GraphDB Workbench and the ability to connect external tools to your environment.

Watch the introductory webinar and learn about the capabilities included in Graphwise Sandbox, from the ease of launching isolated demo environments to exploring data through natural language queries.

Explore our first demo projects

GraphDB Sandbox launches with six curated demo projects, including a clean GraphDB Vanilla setup. Each of these illustrates a unique capability of GraphDB and semantic technologies for a custom exploration:

  • GraphDB Vanilla: A clean, empty GraphDB setup — perfect for importing your data or learning from scratch.
  • Talk to Ontotext’s Knowledge Graph: Engage with a real-world knowledge graph using natural language — ask questions and receive answers powered by semantics.
  • European Railway Navigator: Explore real-world railway data across Europe using SPARQL and natural language interfaces.
  • Ontology Navigator with FIBO: Explore the structured world of financial industry concepts using the Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO). Write SPARQL queries, visualize relationships, and interact with financial data through natural language.
  • Star Wars Universe Explorer: Traverse a galaxy of relationships between characters, planets, and factions within a Star Wars dataset.
  • Semantic Movies Recommender: Discover how knowledge graphs enable smarter content recommendations.
  • Human Proteins Explorer with UniProt: Explore how Knowledge Graphs bring structure to protein data – linking genes, functions, and sequences to unlock new possibilities in biomedical research.

Each project features “Talk to Your Graph”, enabling you to interact with your data using natural language – no SPARQL required.

Let’s get started

Now let’s see what you can do:

  1. Sign up instantly.

Register using your LinkedIn or Google account (more options coming soon). Once you register, you’re just a few steps away from working with semantic data.

  1. Pick a demo project.

Browse available demo projects and choose one based on your interests.

  1. Launch your environment.

Launch your private demo environment, complete with the pre-configured dataset and interactive guide. Launching a demo project can take between 45 seconds to 3 minutes, depending on the selected demo project.

  1. Log in and learn.

Log in to your dedicated GraphDB Workbench, using the connection details provided by Graphwise Sandbox.

  1. Learn and explore.

Use the interactive guide to get started or dive straight in and experiment freely. You can explore, query, enhance, and talk to the graph.

  1. Wrap up or export.

Terminate your demo project manually or let it expire automatically after its life span.

Please note that your data is not recoverable once the project is terminated, so if you need to keep it, you can export it before termination. For that purpose, you can export the repository from GraphDB Workbench. Go to Explore -> Graphs overview, then click Export repository and choose the format that fits your needs.

Key features

  • Tenant-level isolation — Each sandbox environment is private — your data and changes are fully isolated and visible only to you.
  • Flexible project lifespan — Projects run for a default of 2 hours, but can be started up to 7 days based on your needs.
  • Repository admin access — While full admin access is restricted, you have repository-level permissions to manage data and settings.
  • External connectivity — Each demo project includes setup instructions to help you connect external systems or tools.

Usage limitations

To ensure fair resource distribution and optimal performance, the sandbox includes the following limits:

  • Hosting constraints
    • Maximum of 50 million statements per projec
    • Up to 2 concurrent queries
  • Token quota — Each user has a total of 500,000 tokens shared across all projects. This typically supports a few complex interactions with a standard language model, or a dozen or more with a lightweight one.
  • No full system admin rights — System-level configuration is restricted to maintain security and sandbox integrity.

Coming next

Whether you’re learning, evaluating, or just curious, Graphwise Sandbox is here to support your journey into the world of knowledge graphs.

And this is just the beginning. We are planning to expand Graphwise Sandbox to include other products and demo projects from Graphwise portfolio. In this way, you’ll be able to explore the full power of Graphwise Platform and not just GraphDB.

Need help or have feedback?

If you encounter any issues while using Graphwise Sandbox, we’re here to help. All you need to do is submit a support ticket via our Sandbox Support Portal.

We also welcome your suggestions and ideas for improvements. Whether it’s a bug report, feature request, or feedback on the demo projects, your input helps us make Graphwise Sandbox even better.
